AIO Named Kenya’s Dr Ben Kajwang As President, Released Dates For 26th African Reinsurance Forum

New AIO Kenya’s Dr Ben Kajwang

Dr Ben Kajwang, Director at the College of Insurance had recently been named
the President of the African Insurance Organisation (AIO) at the just concluded 48th AIO Conference and Annual General Assembly held at the
Edge Convention Centre in Nairobi.

Dr Kajwang is the immediate past Vice President, and he took over
from Mr Tope Smart, the Group Managing Director of NEM Insurance PLC, who served from 2021 to 2022.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Dr. Kajwang’ noted that during his tenure he will champion the implementation of the AIO strategic plan
that focuses on advancing policy interest of the African insurance
industry, creating a data repository on African Insurance markets and
building the capacity in the market to address the emerging issues.

The Kenyan insurance industry is one of the most dynamic markets on
the Continent. According to statistics from the Association of Kenya
Insurers, Kenyan companies have a footprint in 11 African companies,
in East and Southern Africa. The AIO Conference has provided a
critical platform where the whole African insurance industry can
network and form partnerships across the continent.

During the Conference, the Association of Kenya Insurers signed a
partnership agreement with the Moroccan Reinsurance Company to build
capacity for the Kenyan insurance industry on how to cultivate
consumer education. The Kenya Women in Insurance Association was also
launched at the side-lines of the Conference.

The AIO Conference brought together over 1,000 delegates from across
Africa to deliberate on issues of insurance and climate change and the
risks and opportunities that exist for the industry. The Conference
focused on issues of sustainable insurance, disaster risk financing,
data-driven insurance and the role of technology across the insurance
value chain.

Meanwhile, AIO had also released the date for the 26th African Reinsurance Forum.

According to the Organisation on its official social media twitter handle, the dates had been fixed between 1st – 5th October 2022 in Lome, Togo.
