USA VISA OPERATIONS NOW AT LAGOS

Effective August 1, 2026, the U.S. Department of State is realigning visa operations across Africa to designated regional hubs. This is part of a long-standing practice to strengthen national security through more uniform screening, vetting, and adjudication standards — while improving efficiency and adapting to current U.S. immigration policy priorities.

As a result, routine visa services will no longer be offered at the U.S. Embassy in Abuja.

Citizens and residents of Nigeria wishing to apply for a U.S. visa must now:

📍 Schedule an appointment

💳 Pay the required visa fee

🏢 At the U.S. Consulate General, Lagos — the newly designated regional hub

However, the Embassy in Abuja remains open and continues its other diplomatic functions; only routine visa processing has moved. Existing valid visas are not affected.

For appointment scheduling and updates, applicants should check the official U.S. Embassy Nigeria website or ustraveldocs.com.
